Dear Committee members

I am a working parent with a young child living in the Cardiff Area and I would like to support P-04-0346: Petition on provision of early years education.  I did not sign the petition as I

was unaware of its existence.  I understand that although the petition is now closed for signatures you are still collecting evidence.

I understand that you are interested in three main areas:

1) Are you able to access early years education for your 3-4 year old in a way that is Convenient to you?

NO – as I understand I will currently be entitled to 2.5 hours per day (my child is currently 1½) Although the information is difficult to find.

2) Does the provision of early years education for your 3-4 year old enhance or hinder

your opportunities to work or study?

Hinder – As a fulltime working mum it would be impossible for me to continue my current job if I had to collect my child halfway through the day and arrange alternate childcare.

3) Have you declined to take up provision for early years education for your 3-4 year old

as it is inconvenient for you to do so?  If so, what childcare provisions have you made

instead?

I have put my daughter’s name down at Ely and Caerau family centre preschool as this is where she is currently at (paid for) nursery in the hope that they can 1. Accommodate the remaining hours and that 2. I am successful in securing a place for her. If this is not possible then I may have to arrange alternative childcare at a private nursery.

Thank you for taking the time to review this issue

Yours sincerely,

Amy Lewis
